The Missouri Highway Patrol arrested a driver in Warren County last week for more than 8 pounds of marijuana found in the trunk of the vehicle he was driving on Interstate 70.
Warren C. Lewis, 33, of Albemarle, N.C., is charged with delivery of a controlled substance. A passenger in the vehicle was released pending charges, the highway patrol said.
During a June 2 traffic stop, Lewis reportedly told a highway patrol officer that he and the passenger had traveled from North Carolina to Utah for a two-day welding class, according to an arrest report. During a separate conversation, the passenger allegedly gave a different version of the travel plans.
The officer also observed an abnormal amount of dryer sheets scattered inside the vehicle, the report states. The officer asked to search the vehicle, and located multiple vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana in the vehicle’s spare tire compartment and trunk, according to the report.
Lewis told officers he did not know about the drugs in the vehicle. However, the passenger allegedly claimed they had visited multiple dispensaries in Colorado to purchase the marijuana.
The highway patrol said Lewis has a criminal record including drug charges, assault and attempted murder.
Lewis is being held at the Warren County Jail. His next hearing is June 24 in Warren County Circuit Court.
