Dona Marie Smith McCarty, 94, of Hawk Point passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2022. She was born in Wright City on Christmas Day in 1927 at her parents, Don and LuLu (Nistendirk) Smith’s, home and was delivered by a doctor that arrived on horse and buggy.
She married her first love, Daniel, on February 21, 1952. Dona’s life was one of service and volunteering in her community and the Hawk Point Baptist Church. She loved fishing, dancing, playing bingo, gardening, playing the harmonica, hanging wallpaper and bringing her famous pies to carry-ins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Daniel Lee McCarty; and brothers, Maurice (Don) Smith and Milton (Mick) Smith. She is survived by her sister, Lorna Smith Splitt; her two children and their spouses, David and Leslie McCarty and John and Janet McCarty; grandchildren, Jason McCarty, Rachel and Nick Moses, Mindy and Justin Wood, Amy McCarty, John (JD) McCarty, Caleb McCarty and Elizabeth McCarty; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched, loved and volunteered for.
Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Kemper-Keim Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will immediately follow, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Feeler officiating. Interment will be held at Hawk Point City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are John Daniel (JD) McCarty, Caleb McCarty, Jason McCarty, Justin Wood, Dennis McCarty and Homer McCarty.
