The Warrenton baseball team will be facing a familiar foe when it opens the postseason next week.
The Warriors, seeded sixth in the Class 5, District 4 Tournament, will face No. 3 St. Charles at 1 p.m. Monday at home. The two squads have squared off twice this season, with the Pirates winning both games by scores of 9-1 and 7-6.
Monday’s winner will face either No. 2 Fort Zumwalt East or No. 7 McCluer North on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The district title game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday.
Warrenton (7-16) enters districts on a five-game skid, ending the regular season with a 15-5 loss to O’Fallon Christian on May 10.
The Warriors led 3-1 after the second inning before Christian put together nine runs in the fourth. Troy Anderson started the game and suffered the loss. He gave up five runs, three earned, in 3 1/3 innings.
At the plate, Kannon Hibbs, Bailey Meyer and Will Nordstrom each had two hits. Nordstrom had two RBIs and Hibbs scored twice.
Wright City at districts: Matthew Dunning fell six shots shy from earning a state berth at Monday’s Class 3, District 2 Tournament held at Warrenton Golf Course.
Dunning shot a 19-over-par 89. Lutheran South’s Andrew Hennen won the district title with a 1-under 69. Cole Willyard of Westminster Christian was runner-up with a 5-over 75.
Warrenton falls to Sullivan: Kylie Overkamp had the lone goal for the Warriors in last Thursday’s 5-1 home loss. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but Sullivan scored four unanswered goals in the second half.
The defeat dropped Warrenton to 3-18 on the season. Two days earlier the Warriors fell 3-1 to Winfield.Bella Roberts had the goal on an assist from Coryn Higby for Warrenton.
