Three area cross country runners placed in the top 15 at Friday’s Bowling Green Invitational, the final meet prior to the start of the postseason.
Wright City junior Zoe Riggs continued her stellar junior campaign with a third-place finish in 20 minutes, 15.22 seconds. Warrenton sophomore Madelyn Marschel earned a medal in 15th in 21:39.20. On the boys side, Wright City junior Trent Bruning captured a medal with a 14th-place finish in 17:52
All three runners are eyeing a return to state. Warrenton will compete in the Class 4, District 4 Meet this Saturday, Oct. 31, in Washington. The Class 4 state meet is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, in Columbia.
Wright City will return to Bowling Green Saturday for the Class 3, District 3 Meet. The Class 3 state meet is planned for Thursday, Nov. 5 in Columbia.
At Friday’s meet, the Warrenton girls placed 10th out of 12 schools with 234 points. Father Tolton won the team title with 51 points. Fulton’s Kayanna Gaines took first in 20:05.10. The Warriors’ other runners were Camryn Petersmeyer (40th, 23:15.48), Mattison Halter (59th, 24:18.61),
Emma Lewis (73rd, 25:58.78), Gabby Scruggs (78th, 26:59.71), Briana Grooms (79th, 27:07.47), Audry Shaw (88th, 29:06.43) and Dacey Woodruff (89th, 29:08.66).
Also running for the Wright City girls were Kaedyn Johnson (64th, 24:46.02), Samantha Finch (72nd, 25:43.74) and Nicole Lotspeich (90th, 29:14.34).
The Warrenton boys placed 13th out of 15 schools in the meet with 356 points. Wyatt Claiborne had the fastest time, finishing in 43rd in 19:03.40. Other running for the Warriors were Coalton Hill (62nd, 19:55.60), Jacob Lange (89th, 20:54.40), Thomas Hale (98th, 21:48.30), Mark Thomas Diller (99th, 21:58.40) and Gus Klaustermeier (103rd, 22:26).
Wright City had two other runners in the boys race. They were Jackson Mazella (71st, 20:13.70) and Cailou Florian Muller-Williams (72nd, 20:14.80).
Father Tolton won the boys team title with 52 points, led by Garrett Wilmes who won the race in 16:51.90.

Wright City falls in regular-season finale
Wright City won the first set 27-25, but Montgomery County responded with winning the final three sets (19-25, 10-25, 10-25) in the regular-season finale for both teams last Thursday.
Emily Schanuel had a team-best four kills, while Reagan Charlesworth contributed seven assists.
Wright City was scheduled to open district play Tuesday night.
