The members of the 2026 Warrenton boys’ volleyball team have cemented a legacy.
In just the second year of the program, Warrenton (11-10-1) ensured itself a .500 season after its district quarterfinal win over Holt at St. Dominic last Friday.
For senior outside hitter Teegan Williams, the season won’t end with a loss, even if the team can't get past top-seeded St. Dominic in Wednesday night's semifinal; it will end with a flood of memories for him and his teammates.
“We were looking at the records and all of our names are up there, I mean, they should be because it’s the first two years of the program,” Williams said. “It just feels good. Most of us are ranked in our respective positions. At least three kids will go DI in the area and it makes me happy to be there with them.”
As it stands, Williams will end the season in the top 10 in the area in kills for the Warriors as he had 282 headed into the match with Dominic.
Williams’s work in terms of kills wasn’t the only bright statistical spot for the Warriors this season. Before the Dominic game, the team also had 49 service aces and 152 kills from sophomore right side Lucas Payne, 467 assists from junior setter Matthew Faubion, 28 blocks from senior middle Kaleb Lauck and 297 digs from senior setter Brayden Brown.
Warrenton Coach Jake Brown said that taking the next step of general improvement this season, after simply setting a foundation in last year’s inaugural season, was a definite bright spot for the team and program.
After winning just five games as a first-year program, Warrenton reeled off a pair of four-game win streaks to go along with a three-game winning streak this season.
“We tried to make a goal that was attainable, looking at our schedule at the beginning,” said Brown of finishing .500. “The kids responded really well, putting together the effort and the energy that we needed. We’re very proud of them for what they’ve done this season.”
Brayden Brown highlighted a recent match against Orchard Farm as an emblematic one for the Warriors.
After falling in three games earlier this season, Warrenton downed the Eagles in four games on the road on May 5.
“We had our whole team for that one,” Brayden Brown said. “The first time we played them, we were short-handed and had guys playing out of position. The win against them showed what we’re capable of when we have all our guys.”
While their names may stand in the record books for varying amounts of time, Brown said that one thing he’ll always have with him moving forward is all the memories he built as a part of the first two seasons of Warrenton Boys’ volleyball.
“It has been fun, lots of fun,” Brayden Brown said. “There are so many memories.”
