A weeklong dispute between two Warren County offices caused some residents a delay in getting the paperwork they need for vehicle registrations. Officials say the issue has now been resolved.Residents were unable to get certification from the county saying they did not owe taxes from a previous year. The information is necessary for vehicle registration. The two county offices responsible for issuing the information were in a disagreement about how the procedure of verifying taxes should be handled. The county assessor’s office is responsible for determining whether or not someone owned taxable property in Warren County in any given year, while the county collector of revenue verifies that all taxes are paid.County Assessor Wendy Nordwald said after several days of internal reorganization, residents are once again able to obtain the paperwork they need, and shouldn’t notice any difference from how tax waivers were previously handled. She said anyone who needs a waiver from the county should start at the assessor’s office to get a statement of non-assessment if they didn’t own local property in a particular year.Collector of Revenue Julie Schaumberg said she believes the issue has been resolved and that she will continue to work with other elected officials to serve the taxpayers of Warren County.County officials also commended the Warrenton License Office for its assistance in ngotiating a solution to the disagreement. A representative of the license office declined to comment.Warren County Administration Building
