A bomb scare triggered by a man who police said has “mental issues” prompted an evacuation of the Cascade Plastics plant and other nearby buildings Friday. Truesdale Police Chief Andy Huston said the man, who was in his late 20s, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation. His name was not released. Nothing of significance was found, Huston said, as the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s bomb squad made a sweep of the man’s vehicle and factory, which is located at 7501 S. Spoede Lane in the Warrenton Area Industrial Park. Local authorities responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. following two 911 calls made by the man. Huston said the man had complained that somebody was tampering with his vehicle and feared that people were out to hurt him. Due to the man’s odd behavior and other information provided that suggested a bomb could have been present in his car, Huston said he had the bomb squad dispatched to the scene as a precautionary measure. Huston also said concerns were raised because the man parked his car closer to the plant facility rather than in a rear employee parking lot. A 500-meter safety barrier was set up from the plant. After being evacuated, employees were allowed to use the facilities at nearby Warrenton Oil. Huston said it didn’t appear the man would face criminal charges for the incident. “It was a job well done on everybody’s part,” he said. “It’s unfortunate, but he has mental issues that will be addressed.” Cascade Plastics manufactures foam meat and poultry packaging trays. Other agencies responding to Friday’s incident included the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Warrenton Fire Protection District and Missouri Division of Drug and Crime Control. Authorities were on the scene for around seven hours.
