Deputy fabricated story about shooting

Posted
A Warren County sheriff's deputy made up a report about being the target of an ambush-style shooting according to news reports. The Warren County Sheriff's Department said Sunday the deputy originally claimed his patrol vehicle came under fire in the Reifsnider State Forest about 7:23 p.m. Saturday. He said the shooter opened fire and then fled. The department said its investigation found that the deputy had fabricated the report. A release from the department said the deputy is an Army combat veteran who says he struggles with "post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and suicidal thoughts." The deputy has been placed on unpaid leave.  The sheriff's department said it is working with the deputy's family in coordinating a treatment plan for the officer.
