Liberty Christian guard Andrew Voss began his junior season in style, scoring his 1,000th-career point Dec. 5 in a win over Providence Classical. Voss leads the Eagles with 21.3 points, 4.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game. On Nov. 21 he scored 36 points on 15-of-19 shooting to lead Liberty Christian past First Baptist, 86-50.
Voss recently spoke with The Record after being named the December Athlete of the Month.
How has your season been going? “It’s been going pretty good for the most part. We definitely have room for improvement, but we are still getting better.”
What is your favorite part about playing for LCA? “My favorite part is probably the environment. Everyone is just like family to you here, and it’s just nice to be around.”
Do you have a role model? “My biggest role model is definitely my dad. He’s the one who is always showing me the way and guiding me. My other role model would be my buddy Tanner. He has helped me overcome a lot in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
Who is your favorite athlete? “It’s probably (Boston Celtics guard) Kyrie Irving because I love the way he plays the game. It’s just fun to watch him.”
Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? “The only thing I do before games is listen to music and pray, but that’s about all I do.”
What is your favorite high school memory so far? “It is probably when I hit my 1,000th-career point this season.”
What are your expectations for the rest of the season? “My expectations are to definitely win the rest of the regular season games and also win state.”
If you could have dinner with any person, alive or dead, who would it be? “It would definitely be Kyrie Irving because he’s my favorite athlete. I would ask him a whole bunch of basketball questions.”
What is your dream job? “Going to the NBA is for sure my dream job.”
Where is one place you’d like to visit? “Australia. It would be so cool if I got to go there.”
Favorite movie: “ ‘Creed.’ That movie is sweet.”
Favorite meal: “Probably just a good old steak.”
Favorite class: “P.E., but if that doesn’t count, then English.”
