Who do you most look up to? “My mom.”

Fun fact: “I like to collect rubber ducks.”

Weirdest rubber duck you own: Thomas Jefferson rubber duck

How do you manage your time with being involved in so many clubs?

“The most important thing is just keeping a schedule and making sure that I know every event that I need to plan and working with my team members.”

Why is it important for you to be involved?

“I like to be involved and I like knowing that I make a difference around my school.”

What kind of differences have you made?

“I think I’ve made a lot of difference in the organizational part of things and helping plan and make our school move forward instead of staying still.”

What accomplishments are you most proud of?

“I made it to Nationals for FBLA in Anaheim, California and qualified for state for HOSA.”

Tell me more about going to Nationals.

“It was definitely a learning experience. I was around people that are just as driven as I am and I was learning from them and how they solve their problems, and learning how to problem solve in other ways other than my own.”

What project did you present at Nationals?

“We presented a community service project and we called it “Shattering All Stigmas.” We were shattering the stigmas around mental health and we did a whole bunch of stuff throughout our school, like tables and fundraisers. We presented that to the judges and I think we placed in the top 25 in the country.”

Why did you choose that topic?

“Me and my friend Matthew, we were two people of our three-member team and I personally have had a direct encounter with suicide with my cousin. She tried to commit and thankfully and fortunately, it didn’t happen. But, we both know somebody that did lose their life to suicide so we wanted to spread awareness about that throughout our school and community.”

What did you present at state for HOSA?

“We did the same project, but tweaked it to fit their standards. We were teaching more about how that affects people’s mental health and how it makes such a big difference, rather than just spreading awareness about it.”

What are some projects you’re looking to present in the future?

“We’re actually planning on doing something similar to mental health, but it’s more focused on teaching people how to excel with their mental health and flourish. We named it “Focus on Flourishing” and we hosted a table at First Fridays, so we’re already getting started.”

What have been the biggest takeaways from being involved in numerous activities?

“Relying on people that are working with you, instead of putting all the workload on yourself. Learning how to be a leader and guide people to be better and plan better. Also, making an impact on others and not just myself.”
