DARE TO EXCEL: Nyah Moss

Posted

Liberty Christian senior Nyah Moss has many interests. Ranging from student council to simply enjoying nature, Moss likes to lead by example whether it is in a sport or outside of school. Moss has a passion for art and videography, which has caused her to desire more involvement with art within her school.

Sweet or salty snacks: Both

If you could meet one celebrity, who would it be: Jim Carrey

What would your last meal be: A terry burger over rice with an egg.

What’s your favorite piece of art: “There’s this kind of mosaic piece from like 300 B.C. and I think it’s King Nebucha Palace and that’s really cool to see all the history that goes along with it. It’s crazy to see something that was actually in the palace of someone who’s mentioned in the Bible and then see that it’s still here.”

What school activities are you involved in besides volleyball?

“I’m on the student council. I’m just a member, but I think it’s pretty cool to see the impact students can have and the changes that we can make. I’ve never been a part of a group like that.”

How long have you been on the student council and what made you want to join?

“This is my first year. I came to LCA my seventh, eighth and ninth grade year. Then I was homeschooled my 10th and 11th grade year, so this is my first year back. I wanted to see how everything works and how change can be implemented.”

Are there any specific changes you want to see in your school?

“It would be cool to see students getting involved in things they are passionate about. For instance, I think it could be cool to have some kind of art fair. I’m really interested in art and one of the points I had when I joined student council was to start up an art cart. I haven’t done that yet, but I think it would be cool.”

What do you mean by an art cart?

“I had this idea in my mind where it’s this rolling cart that goes around and people can add art to it or take some out. So, they can have a piece or art they really like or add a piece of art that they feel passionate about.”

Have you always been passionate about art?

“My grandma really loves art and I feel like she gave me that passion too. A big thing she has always told me is that art doesn’t have rules and you can do whatever you want with it. I think that’s pretty cool and it really helps my mindset with a lot of things in life, like working hard and trying new things, because you can do whatever you want to do.”

What kind of art do you enjoy making?

“It’s a little bit of everything. I like watercolor.”

What other hobbies do you have?

“I don’t know if it’s a hobby, but I like being outside. I love being in nature and seeing the beauty that’s all around us.”

What are your plans after graduation?

“I plan to go to college for business and I guess I’ll see where God takes me after that. I’m going to tour a few colleges in California this week, so I’m thinking not in state, but it’s not set in stone yet.”

Is there anything you want to do in the future with art?

“I really enjoy videography. My parents own a wedding venue, so I get to shoot videos for some of the couples and I could see myself doing something around that in the future, like maybe content creation.”

How long have you been making videos and what have you learned from that?

“I’d say this year is the main year I’ve started. I started by doing my parents' content creation for the venue and then I moved on to doing it for couples as they come in. I’ve learned that starting a business is really possible. It seemed kind of overwhelming at first, but if you have a passion about something and you know how to do it, then you can share it with others.”
