Kody Huse is extremely proud of his latest acquisition, a 1969 Volkswagon Beetle he is making the final payments on with his earnings from working at Shelton Racing and Performance.The Wright City senior plans to restore the relic, which dons a dark blue paint job with a white pinstripe along the side.Having developed a passion for automobiles and mechanics, he devotes much of his time to the trade. Huse is even planning on attending the University of Central Missouri to study auto technology and design.“Noone from that program has ever not gotten a job, as long as they were willing to move,” said Huse, who may find himself in the Motor City in a few short years.Huse transferred to Wright City for his sixth-grade year after going to a handful of private christian schools in the O’Fallon area. He has since made a profound impact both on his teachers and classmates.“When I arrived her in sixth grade, I felt like I already knew everything,” said Huse, who believes private school prepared him well. However, he was not fond of the uniforms students were required to wear at Living Word Christian Academy.Named Student of the Year during his freshman and sophomore years at Wright City, he was surprised to earn the honor twice.Huse has become particularly involved in the Robotics Club at Wright City High School and is preparing to compete in the state competition. He enjoys the meticulous process from drawing and designing the plans to building the complete model.He has competed in track in the past, trying the pole vault before deciding to devote his time to mechanics and working.Huse has one sister, Abi, who attends Lindenwood and is an MMA fighter.“I try not to mess with her, but I’m pretty sure she can whip my butt,” quipped Huse.Q: What is the biggest difference between attending public and private school?“Here we move around from classroom to classroom all day, whereas before we had all our of classes in one room. And the number of people in each thing, like band, was much smaller too.”Q: What is your favorite class?“Probably chemistry and physics, because I like how hands on they are.”Q: Who is your favorite teacher?“Mr. Shaw teaches calculus. It’s the hardest class I have, but he makes it fun for everyone.”Q: Who has had the greatest influence on your life?“Miss Strauss isn’t here any more, but she was our English teacher last year. I was never very good at writing papers, but she taught me something I know I’ll need for a long time. And she would always give us a speech of advice to our class.”Q: What is your most memorable moment from high school?“Last summer I went to Missouri Boys State. I was the only one in my group from Wright City, and it was a great experience.”Q: What has been your greatest accomplishment?“Getting named Student of the Year. I was very appreciative and didn’t expect it the second time, but it shows I always try to do the right things.”Favorite Food: “Country Fried Steak.”Favorite Restaurant: “Tuscanos.”Favorite Movie: “American Sniper.”Favorite TV Show: “Family Guy.”Favorite Song: “Centuries by Fall Out Boy.”Favorite Music: “Anything not slow.”Kody Huse
