When Justin Kilpack’s family moved to Warrenton days before his freshman year began, he had very little interest in choir. While at his previous school in Camdenton, he had viewed choir more as a class, not receiving much enjoyment from it. But looking back as a senior, Kilpack considers choir to be one of his favorite memories while at Warrenton High School. He decided to continue singing after realizing an enthusiastic family friend was the teacher. Four years later, Kilpack is celebrating many accomplishments as a member of the Pitch The Keys A Capella group.Kilpack just returned from a trip to Chicago, where he performed in the semifinals with Pitch The Keys. He is also enthusiastic about his involvement in WYSE, the Worldwide Youth Science and Engineering program, which competes on college campuses. Kilpack recently finished first in both the chemistry and physics testing events at districts. The second youngest of four boys, Kilpack plans on eventually attending Brigham Young University to study chemical engineering. Beforehand, he would like to serve a two-year religious mission.Q: What drew your interest in Pitch The Keys?“I’ve done choir since freshman year, and this is sort of the top choir at the high school. When Mr. (Jarrod) Hendricks was in charge, he got me real interested in it, plus my brother had done it. I saw the performances and thought it was super cool.”Q: What do you enjoy about WYSE?“I thought it would be a really good way to prepare for AP (advanced placement) tests. I was able to get a 5 on AP test because of it without any real issues since the AP test was so much easier than the WYSE tests.”Q: What is your favorite class?“I love chemistry. Whenever I took chemistry I really enjoyed the class. We had a brand new teacher and I was able to help explain a lot in that process. It helped me dive deeper into it, and I thought that was super awesome. It’s one of the few subjects I’ve really enjoyed.”Q: Who has had the greatest influence on your life?“I’d probably say my older brother Jared. He was a big leader in my life with the transition of moving to Warrenton. At first it was hard to make new friends. He was able to make friends a lot faster than me and we centered around a big group of friends.”Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you choose and why?“I would like to visit Mexico and experience the culture there, because my grandfather is from Mexico. Seeing where he and my ancestors grew up would be cool.”Q: If you could spend a weekend with any three people, who would you choose?“My brother Jared bc we’ve always been super close and have a lot of the same interest. I’d also pick my brothers Jaron and Johnny. It would be a bros weekend.”Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?“Always believe in yourself. I hear all the time, “it’s just Warrenton.” There are plenty of opportunities available. You just have to take advantage of them.”Favorite Food: “Spicy Mexican Food.”Favorite Restaurant: “La Taqueria”Favorite Movie: “Avengers.”Favorite TV Show: “I don’t watch much TV.”Favorite Song: “Near my God to Thee.”Favorite Musician: “BYU Vocal Point.”Justin Kilpack
