Drew Hall wasn’t raised to be a farmer. Instead, he raised up his own farm. When his step-grandfather came into his life, he began sharing his experiences of farming. Hall as intrigued and began raising small animals and eventually much larger ones. The Warrenton junior now has built an operation that raises cattle, pigs, chickens and rabbits. For him, farming is a passion, as is showing the livestock. During the summer he can be found proudly showing animals at the Warren County Fair.Hall is the vice president of the Warrenton High School FFA Chapter and was a charter member of the trapshooting team. As an active and accomplished FFA member, he has won the Star Green Hand, Chapter Farm and State Leadership Awards. Soon, he will be applying for his state FFA degree and ultimately the American degree, which he likens to an Eagle Scout ranking in how the honor is achieved.During his free time, Hall enjoys hunting all type of animals, especially deer, and fishing. He also wakes before the sunrise many mornings to tend raccoon traps.Hall plans to attend Missouri State University and major in agriculture business, later returning to apply that education to his farming operation.Q: What is it that you enjoy about farming and showing animals?“I really enjoy getting the animals at an early age and watching them as you feed and raise them up. You can take a wild pig and pretty soon you’ve got them eating out of your hand. You learn how to control and be with the animal. I like that connection you build.”Q: What is your favorite class?“My favorite class would be advanced animal science. You go more in depth as to cattle gestation periods and how to breed animals. You cover a lot more than your general ag class would.”Q: If you could send a message to the public about agriculture, what would it be?“Don’t fall for the misconceptions about how animals are raised, especially by the anti-agriculture groups. The animals are the farmers’ livelihood. If they don’t take care of them or treat them well, they’re not going to have a high quality animal.”Q: Who has had the greatest influence on your life?“I would say my dad. Whatever I have thrown at him, he’s always stood behind me and supported it. Even if he didn’t know much about the topics, he stood behind me the whole time to figure things out. He never really stopped supporting me in anything I did.”Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?“I’ve always wanted to go to Alaska for a bear a hunt. I think that would be a lot of fun.”Q: What is the greatest advice you’ve ever gotten?“You can either have time or money. You can’t have both. Pick one and stick to it. You can never get your time back, but you can always have more money.”Favorite Food: “Steak.”Favorite Restaurant: “Texas Roadhouse.”Favorite TV Show: “Gold Rush.”Favorite Movie: “The Blindside.”Favorite Song: “The Dance by Garth Brooks.”Favorite Musician: “Jason Aldean.”Drew Hall
