The 93rd State Assembly of the Daughters of the American Colonists was held March 4-5 at the Hampton Inn and Suites at the University of Missouri-Columbia.Before the Friday afternoon business meeting, the annual state officers club luncheon was held with President Jan Stevens presiding. Chaplain Tammy Friedman gave the invocation.The program was mob caps given by Sara Branton, who handmade the colonial mob caps for all the members.For the business meeting, the colors were posted by the Columbia Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard.The meeting was called to order by State Regent Margaret Maulin, and the invocation was given by State Chaplain Marie Braton.Jan Stevens introduced Honorary State regents Estella Morrison, Evelyn Kinkade, Mariah Gish and JoAnna Dale.The welcome was given by Blair Haskamp of the Hampton Inn, and the response was given by Anne Keller, assembly chairman.The state regent was assisted by CAC aide (Children of the American Colonists) Alice Reed of the Aux Arcs chapter.At the evening candlelight supper, Fran Black presented her program on American exceptionalism. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Norma I. Leavene Distinguished Service Plaque. The winner is kept secret until the announcement.Jan Stevens, St. Louis Chapter, won the plaque for her distinguished service.At the Saturday morning business meeting, certificates were given out by Fran Black, chairman of the prizes and awards.The St. Louis Chapter won the Missouri Landmak contest. The Missouri entry of the 200-year-old Stark Brothers Nursery in Louisiana, Mo. will now go to the national assembly for consideration of a historical marker to be placed by the National DAC Society.A memorial service was held for the daughters who passed away during the year by Braton.At the Golden Acorn luncheon, Megan Brown, regent of the Aux Arcs chapter and a Golden Acorn, gave the program on the History of Golden Acorns, who are a junior DAC member up to the age of 45 provided they join the DAC prior to their 36th birthday.Family groups were introduced: Estella Morrison, Osage Chapter, and daughter Evelyn Kinkade; Auxiliary Arcs Chapter Sara Branton and daughter Tammy Friedman; St. Louis Chapter, sisters Regina Krause and Renita Higgins; Mary Ball, Washington Chapter; Joyce Johnson mother and daughters Leila Hughes and Elaine Hall, Mersey Lucas Wood Chapter; Joyce Harlan and daughter Susan Schnetzler, Moberly Chapter; Cousins Barbara Ronimous and Nadine Thornburg, Moberly Chapter.The 2017 Daughters of the American Colonists State Assembly will be held in Columbia.
