"I enjoy the small-town feel," he said while signing autographs Saturday. "I am from a small town in Oklahoma, so I really like the real community feeling of the event. Despite rainy weather, organizers estimate that 1,200 people turned out for the event held at the Missouri Army National Guard Armory in Warrenton. "People say it's the best one we've had," said Jan Olearnick, Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce executive director. On hand to sign autographs and promote Cardinal Home Improvement, Brown was just one of many family-friendly attractions at this year's show. Brian Berryman of Warrenton was one of the first people in line to get an autograph. "I am excited because he was a Seattle Seahawks player and he's an awesome kicker," Berryman said. Gavin Prior was also thrilled to have an NFL player visit his hometown. "I love football!" Prior exclaimed, after getting a signed photo of Brown. Other family-friendly activities included making butterflies with the Warren County Fine Arts Council and planting flowers with the Warren County Master Gardeners. Randi Trent of Wright City made butterfly wings with her daughter, Ryleigh Van Doren. "We're having fun here today, it's something fun to do with the kids," Trent said. Brianna Grooms, age 3, of Warrenton, enjoyed the opportunity to plant purple flowers with Master Gardener Dee Vadnais-Null. "We've had quite a few kids come by to plant flowers," Vadnais-Null said. The Home and Garden Show sold out with a total of 57 booths, Olearnick said. Each booth was encouraged to make family-friendly games and activities part of their exhibit. "We are very pleased with all the positive feedback we are receiving from vendors. They all said they will definitely be back next year," Olearnick said. Michael Bonner of Amos Bonner Construction was an exhibitor. "This event is great for local businesses," he said. "There's great potential to attract local customers and network with local businesses." Citing the change in venue as a major reason for the event's success, Olearnick extended a special thanks to the Missouri Army National Guard. "They went above and beyond the call of duty to give back to the community," she said. "They provided security and helped with setup and cleanup. Sgt. Massey was wonderful."
