COVID vaccines become available for children

Posted

Federal regulators announced last week that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for children ages 5-11, and local healthcare providers are beginning to offer the shot for kids.

Warren County Health Department Director Stacey White said child vaccinations for COVID will be available in at least three locations by mid-November. Walk-in vaccinations are already available at Legacy Drugstore’s pharmacies in Wright City and Warrenton, and shipment will arrive at the health department sometime after November 15, White said. Child COVID vaccinations at the health department will be available by appointment only.

The Compass Health clinic in Warrenton has not yet announced if or when Pfizer shots for children will become available there.

About 15,300 Warren County residents, about 43 percent of the population, have gotten at least one COVID shot, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. That’s well below the statewide average of 56 percent.
