COVID testing this Friday; Four more deaths reported

Posted

Free COVID-19 testing will be available this Friday, Dec. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Warren County Fairgrounds, 615 Fairgrounds Road, Warrenton.

The testing is being offered by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri National Guard, and the Warren County Health Department.  There is no charge for the test, and you do not have to be a Warren County resident to get tested.

You can register in advance for a time slot to get tested. Register by calling 877-435-8411 or going online to health.mo.gov/communitytest.

The testing event is part of a statewide effort to identify new cases of COVID and track the prevalence of COVID in communities.

Since last week, the Warren County Health Department has received information about four more deaths attributed to COVID-19, bringing total deaths here to 14 people. All the deaths have occurred since late September.

The number of active COVID cases decreased over the past seven days, according to health department data. 120 new people were diagnosed with the virus, but 215 existing patients were classified as recovered.

That brings the number of active cases down to 489, while the total cases for this year are at 1,684 as of Wednesday.

No change to quarantine

The Warren County Health Department on Tuesday announced it will continue to advise 14-day quarantines for people exposed to COVID-19. The decision follows an announcement last week by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that quarantine periods can be shortened to 10 days under the right circumstances.

The health department said it received guidance from state health officials that advised counties to only consider relaxed quarantine times if they are at reduced risk for COVID spread. Warren County remains in the state’s highest-level “extreme risk” category.

The health department also clarified that the CDC still says 14-day quarantines are the safest option.

“Therefore, at this time Warren County will continue to follow the CDC’s recommendation for close contacts to quarantine for 14 days after last exposure to a positive COVID-19 individual, due to our high positivity rate, limited testing options and our current risk status,” the health department said Tuesday.

Health officials added that quarantine guidelines will be reassessed when COVID numbers show sustained improvement and the county’s risk status decreases.
