What started with the love for a song about ticks took a exciting turn for a Warrenton couple.Gender reveal parties are all the rage for expectant couples. They are surprising each other and their loved ones with cute ways to announce the gender of their unborn babies. It could be with a big box that opens to pink or blue balloons. A well-crafted poem. Or anything creative and personal that proclaims boy or girl. For Monica and Kyle Thayer, the Brad Paisley concert Sunday, Aug. 7, in Maryland Heights was their moment. They approached country music superstar with the help of local radio stations and a pink and blue poster at the concert reading: He or she? Brad, will you tell me?Kyle, 27, wasn’t so sure it was going to work.“We had a back up plan with friends,” he said. “But it worked, so we didn’t have to go that route.”It didn’t just work, it went beyond expectations.“It went way over the top. I’d say we started a new trend,” Kyle said. The reveal went viral and made local and national news. The video appears on social media and You Tube.Apparently, backstage, Paisley liked the idea of a gender reveal at his concert. During his performance of “She’s Everything,” he pulled the expectant couple on stage.“We didn’t know he was going to pull us on stage. We thought he would do it from the stage,” said Monica, 24. “When you’re on stage, it’s so bright. You can’t see people, just those right in front. But you know they’re there.”It was a brief on stage encounter, under the spotlights with their favorite musician and thousands more of his fans.If it had been at a different time, though, things could have been different. About five years ago, Monica didn’t listen to country music. She became a Brad Paisley and a country music fan when she heard Paisley’s song, “Ticks,” at a party with friends. The lyrics go like this: “‘Cause I’d like to see you out in the moonlight / I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks / I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers / And I’d like to check you for ticks.“I fell in love with it,” Monica said. “Ever since then, Brad has been my favorite country star. He brought me into the country music world.”She says country songs are authentic and relatable. Paisley’s songs, she adds, especially are genuine. And now Paisley, the musician who brought country music to the family, is the person who revealed that after two daughters, Audrina, 5, and Hailee, 18 months, the couple is expecting a baby boy Dec. 1. The couple plan to name him Bradley Kain.Mom and Dad, who own Chemical Customs in Troy, really just want a healthy and happy baby. They see characteristics in their baby’s namesake that they want to instill in their son.“I hope he grows up looking up to Brad Paisley; that he would grow up to be as positive and humble and bring out the same positive energy that he does,” Monica said. “I want him to grow up to be a nice young man.”
