County releases map identifying areas of COVID-19 cases

The Warren County Health Department has unveiled a new tool to provide more information related to local COVID-19 cases.

This week the health department released a website link for an online map that tracks the zip code of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The map is accessible at www.warrencountyhealth.com.

However, the health department is cautioning people to be careful how they interpret the data on the map.

“The case count and count by zip code can’t be interpreted completely without the individual details of each case, and do not necessarily mean anything simply based on the location of someone’s residence,” the health department said in a statement about the map feature.

Several individuals who have tested positive don’t work or spend a lot of time in Warren County, and didn’t necessarily contract the disease in their immediate community, the health department said.

At the same time, people shouldn’t become reckless because of a lack of cases in their area, the health department added. There are likely other cases around the county that haven’t been identified.

The health department said it is monitoring other ill persons who aren’t able to get tested, people with symptoms who aren’t seeking care, and a few travelers who don’t have symptoms but are self-monitoring.

Officials also clarified that the county doesn’t receive notice of pending test results because the testing is done through private labs. The county is notified when a test comes back positive.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the map for Warren County showed 13 positive cases. A majority of current patients, nine, reside in the 63390 zip code, which includes Wright City and Innsbrook. Two cases are located in the 63357 zip code, which spans southern Warren County. One case each has been verified in the Warren County portions of the Jonesburg and Hawk Point zip codes.

No cases had yet been identified in the central 63383 zip code, which includes the city of Warrenton.

Information about COVID-19 is changing daily. For the most up-to-date information, go to the Warren County Health Department website, www.warrencountyhealth.com.
