The 2017 Warren County Fair is just around the corner. With less than a week to go, volunteers are readying the county fairgrounds in Warrenton for droves of attendees. The first event of Fair Week is the County Fair Parade Sunday, July 2. Paul Owenby, president of the Warren County Fair Association, said the number of parade participants varies from year to year, but he is looking for a large turnout.“There’s a lot of interest in the Tribute to Veterans theme this year,” Owenby said. The theme of the 2017 county Fair is “Some Gave All: A Tribute to Veterans.”No preregistration is necessary to participate in the parade. Lineup begins at 2 p.m., and the parade will begin at 4 p.m., traveling through downtown Warrenton and Truesdale to Warrenton High School.Daily activities at the county fairgrounds will begin at 8 a.m. on July 4.New to the Fair this year is a UTV obstacle course race by off-road vehicles Saturday, July 8. That will replace the yearly motocross event and will be at the motocross track, Owenby said. The event starts at 2 p.m.Other major events at the Fair include Fourth of July fireworks Tuesday night and a main stage performance by YouTube personality and humorist Chad Prather July 5.The fireworks show will begin after 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. The show will be run by J&M Displays Inc., a national fireworks and pyrotechnics company based in Iowa. The city of Warrenton is sponsoring the show.Prather will appear on stage at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Prather is known for humorous, fast-talking rants filmed in the driver’s seat of his pickup truck and posted on YouTube.Carnival daysCarnival entertainment will be at the county Fair from Tuesday to Saturday. Carnival rides are free with the price of admission. Other games, food and raffles are not included, though, and are charged separately, Owenby said.Season passes to the Fair can be purchased for $40 and are available in advance at local banks or from any contestant in the Fair queen contest. The daily ticket costs for July 4-5 is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 7 to 12. The daily admission costs increase to $15 for adults and $10 for children July 6-8. Children age 6 and younger get in free every day.During the Fair, the Tribute to Veterans Memorial organization will be collecting donations for the memorial site under construction on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Warrenton.Weather for the week of the Fair is expected to be warm, with a chance of thunderstorms early in the week. Temperatures will range from the high 80s to the low 90s, according to AccuWeather.“If you’re going to be outside for a long time and it’s warm, look for a cool spot and stay hydrated,” Owenby said. If any fairgoers feel ill from the heat, Warren County Ambulance District staff will be on site at the Warrenton Lions Club and will have the building open for indoor air conditioning, he said.In the case of severe weather, Fair staff will be in direct contact with the National Weather Service and emergency services, Owenby said. If storms move in, the people in the fairgrounds will be moved under roofs or indoors as needed, he said. Also on hand during the Fair will be off-duty police officers hired to provide security, Owenby said.“I hope we have really decent weather so everybody can come out and have a good time, and support a good cause with the Tribute to Veterans,” he said.Information about events and attractions at the Fair, along with a full schedule, can be found online at www.warrencountyfairgrounds.com.Warren County Fair
