County expects troubles with floor tiles to be resolved

Record Managing EditorAbout a third of the floor tiles in the Warren County Administration Building will be replaced, commissioners said last week. The tiles are coming loose because the adhesive that was used at the time of installation is not holding them down. The problem is one the county has been fighting for some time, but should be resolved soon, officials said.Last week, commissioners said the installer, Tony Prince Flooring, agreed to replace the floor tiles at no additional cost to the county. The warranty on the flooring also has been extended for an additional five years. The loose tiles are primarily located in the hallways on all three floors of the facility, officials said.“The outcome is wonderful,” Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner said.Work is expected to begin this fall and is not expected to affect or lead to any closures of county offices during this time.Septagon, the project manager, and Treanor Architects assisted the county in resolving the floor issue.Kluesner said the issue was likely caused from a “migration of moisture” at the time the flooring was installed. The same tile was installed at seven other buildings by the company, but no issues were encountered, the commission was told.“We were not satisfied with the floor at the time of the opening,” he acknowledged. The 36,670-square-foot administration building, located along Highway 47 and Mockingbird Lane in Warrenton, opened in May 2012. It houses all non-court related county offices. It was built at a cost of $6.5 million and was funded through the county’s capital improvement sales tax.
