County assessor has opposition in primary

A third county office will be contested in the August primary election.Andrew Smith, of Innsbrook, has filed to run for the Republican nomination for county assessor. He will attempt to unseat longtime incumbent Wendy Nordwald.They will square off in the primary Aug. 2. The general election will be held Nov. 8.Also in the past week, Robert Lewis is running for another four-year term as county surveyor. He currently is unopposed.The candidate filing period will close Tuesday, March 29.The other two county offices that are contested are coroner and public administrator.A three-way race has emerged for coroner, with incumbent Glenn Craig being challenged by Denise Mauzy and Tom Massman.For public administrator, incumbent Eugene Buxton will face Melissa Dempsey.Other incumbents who have filed are Northern District Commissioner Dan Hampson, Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner and Sheriff Kevin Harrison.All of the candidates are Republicans.State Reps. Bart Korman and Bryan Spencer are currently unopposed. Korman is running for a fourth two-year term representing the 42nd District, which encompasses all of Montgomery County, a large portion of Warren County and southwestern St. Charles County.Spencer is in his second term in the 63rd District, which includes Wright City, nearly all of Innsbrook and northwestern St. Charles County.Candidate Filing
