The “Couch to 5K” program culminated on Aug. 29 with a race featuring 57 participants and two children.Over the past 10 weeks, program participants trained for the 3.1-mile run/walk by partnering with the event organizers, SSM Physical Therapy in Warrenton, Amy Carlson-Long, personal trainer, and Jeremiah Koch, owner of K4 Fitness and Hapkido Plus. The 5K race benefited Warrenton Athletic Resource (W.A.R.), a nonprfoit organiztion that assists children with sports programs.Organizers said the free program enhanced the overall health and wellness of the participants and formed friendships that will go beyond the race. There were multiple participants who trained to walk the 5K that initially could only walk short distances.Volunteers from both businesses, K4 Fitness/Hapkido Plus and SSM Physical Therapy, were there to support the race.Local sponsors included Warrenton Cinema 8, Hibbett Sports, Scott Agency, Inc., Hero’s Forge, MMA, Health First Wellness Center, Schraer Heating and Air Conditioning, Long Term Fitness, PNC Bank, Scott Hart/Gastorf Auto Body, Eagle Activewear, Mary Raterman, CPA, and Little Asia.
