Cotton Road to reopen next Monday

Posted
Cotton Road, the primary route for accessing Marthasville East Elementary School from the Interstate 70 corridor, is set to reopen Monday after repairs over the last week. The road, which is in the city of Foristell, was closed because a section of the southbound lane collapsed while new concrete was being poured to repair damage in the northbound lane, said Police Chief Doug Johnson.“It’s about a six inch drop,” Johnson described of the collapsed section. “It’s not just a little bitty pothole we’re shutting (the road) for. This is a safety issue.”The chief explained that both sides of the road were deteriorating because of water from recent rain eroding the soil underneath the pavement. The damage was spreading even as workers with T.S. Banze were beginning repairs.Concrete was poured in the northbound lane last week, and repairs on the southbound let were scheduled for this week. The road was predicted to reopen by Monday, April 30, barring any bad weather or additional repairs that need to be made.

This photo of Cotton Road, taken April 19, shows where the pavement of the southbound lane collapsed due to soil erosion. Repair work on both sides of the road have cut off the main access for Wright City East Elementary School. The road is set to reopen Monday, April 30.
