Corporate Group chairman appointed to Warrenton Shoppes board

Corporate Group Chairman Jerry Scheidegger was appointed as the interim director of the Shoppes at Warrenton Community Improvement District Board at the Aug. 5. board of aldermen meeting.

Scheidegger was among several appointments and reappointments made by the board at the meeting. He was appointed as the interim director for a term expiring on March 19, 2027, a seat previously held by Bryan King.

Also appointed was Brian Scheidegger as interim director for the same term, replacing Bradford Proctor.

Board members Meghan Waeldar, Brandie Walters and Kelley Barbee were also reappointed to their seats with terms expiring on March 19, 2029.

The changes came in light of the shopping center’s recent sale from Raul Walters Properties to Corporate Group on July 1.

“The Shoppes at Warrenton changed hands about two weeks ago,” said Mayor Eric Schlueter. “So we do need to change some things on the CID.”

The mall was restructured as a community improvement district as part of an agreement passed by the board in 2018. At the time a number of the storefronts were vacant and Raul Walter Properties worked to bring in the Rural King as well as a number of other tenants, revitalizing the center as a more mixed-use development.

That agreement hinged on tax increment financing, an agreement in which a special sales tax was assessed on purchases made at the shopping center to help cover development costs.

Jerry Scheidegger previously said Corporate Group planned to spend their first 30-60 days of ownership making improvements to the shoppes before seeking new tenants.

He said they had purchased the shopping center as they saw continued growth in the area and thought it would be a worthwhile investment.

Those improvements included repaving the parking lot and updating some of the landscaping in the development.

While many of the storefronts in the shopping center are currently occupied, there are some vacancies and Scheidegger had previously mused about what types of businesses his organization would seek to fill those spaces.

He said he would seek to fill holes in amenities that are not available in the area and thought options like an additional medical center, a coffee shop or more retailers would be good options.
