Record Managing EditorGlenn Craig always envisioned himself serving as Warren County coroner. The opportunity presented itself a little sooner than he expected.Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Craig to fill the vacancy on Friday. He will replace Roger Mauzy, who resigned after he was elected as Warren County presiding commissioner.Craig, a Democrat, has been a licensed EMT and paramedic for the past 20 years. He moved to Warren County 10 years ago in hopes of following Mauzy as coroner.“It was a decision made a long time ago,” he said. “I was hoping to get started as deputy coroner, so it would be an easier transition. My plan was always to run for coroner.”Craig is currently a paramedic/firefighter for the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District — a position he’s held since 2000. He also is an adjunct instructor at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He previously was a paramedic for the Warren County Ambulance District from 1998-2000 and worked part time as a medical legal death investigator for the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office from 2005-2012.“From being a death investigator, I see how important the job is,” Craig said. “A lot of people don’t understand how important it is for closure.”In a press release announcing the appointment, Nixon said, “Glenn Craig has two decades of experience as an emergency responder and as an instructor in the field of emergency response. I am pleased to appoint him to this position, and am confident he will ably serve the citizens of Warren County.”Craig said he will be responsible for appointing a new deputy coroner. That position has been vacant since late last year when Ralph Hellebusch, Warren County Ambulance District administrator, resigned.Craig is married to his wife, Angela. They have two children, Austin Craig and Dakota Morgan. The coroner’s annual salary is $17,600.Coroner position filled by governor
