Construction progress being made at new Wright City High School site

Posted

Construction crews continue to make progress at the site of what will be Wright City’s new high school, as they continue to await approval from the Army Corps of Engineers to proceed with a portion of the project.

Wright Construction Vice President Nathan Bibb reported last week that footings and foundations are progressing well at the site, with about 80 percent of footings and foundations complete. Bibb said walls and steel will start to get vertical soon.

“Some steel’s been up but that’s usually when things really start to take shape is when you can see it vertically,” Bibb said last week. “We’re working to pull the casting slabs next week. Which then after they cure, we’ll pull the tilt up slabs and then you’ll see those walls start to go up and then steel will follow it.”

Bibb added that masonry work had started at the site.

Grading and excavating will be ongoing at the site, he confirmed.

While work continues at the site, Wright Construction and the Wright City R-II School District continue to wait for clearance from the Army Corps of Engineers to install a box culvert on the site. The Army Corps of Engineers recently conducted a bat study but has not submitted their report. Bibb confirmed they are “anxious to have the report back.”

“We haven’t seen any update,” Erik Wilson of Bond Architects said. “The consultant that’s working with the Corps has given us a rough time frame but that hasn’t hit yet. We don’t have any updates on it other than what we said last time that the bats that were found were not endangered.”

The district’s projected timeline is to have high school construction completed by October 2024 and to occupy the new high school in January 2025. The new high school will be located on the south side of Wright City, between Roelker Road and Highway F.
