Committee Reports Strong Fund-Raising, Participation

Warren County Relay for Life organizers report that fund-raising and anticipated participation for the 2013 event are strong. This year's Relay for Life will be held Friday and Saturday, May 31-June 1, at the Black Hawk Middle School track in Warrenton. This year's theme is "Carnival of Hope." Organizers stressed that since the event is being held on Warren County R-III School District property, no pets — except for service animals — will be allowed. Through May 6, a total of $30,658 had been raised, according to the Warren County Relay for Life committee. The goal this year is $50,000. Additionally, 22 teams totaling 253 participants have registered, exceeding goals set in both categories. Event organizers hoped to have 15 teams and a total of 200 participants attend the event. Here is the schedule of events: 5:30 p.m. — Gates open; 6 p.m. — Registration begins, Luminaria sales start, opening ceremonies will get under way; 6:30 — Prayer, National Anthem and Speaker of Hope (Mary Lou Rainwater); 7 p.m. — Survivors' Lap; 7:15 p.m. — Caregivers'/Survivors' Lap; 7:30 p.m. — Survivors'/Caregivers' roll call; 7:45 p.m. — "This Little Light of Mine" performed by Olivia Scales, activities and fund-raising sales begin; 8 p.m. — Chicken Dance Lap; 8:15 p.m. — Scavenger Hunt at Fight Back Tent, Bingo at the white tent; 9:15 p.m. — Fight Back Ceremony, Fight Back Lap; 9:30 p.m. — Carol Dieckman Lap; 10 p..m. — Luminaria sales end; 10:30 p.m. — Luminaria Ceremony, activities will be suspended temporarily; 11:15 p.m. — Activities resume; 11:30 p.m. — Siamese Twin back-to-back lap; Midnight — Camp raffles end; 12:30 p.m. — Closing ceremonies and activities end; and 1 a.m. — Breakfast and cleanup.
