What images best represent Warren County in your mind? Want to be forever immortalized as the designer of the county seal? Submissions are being accepted as part of a contest inviting county residents to participate in designing and creating a county seal. The entry deadline is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. The county seal will be prominently displayed at two locations in the new county administration building currently under construction. The seal will be featured as big as 5 feet in diameter above the facility's main entrance and will be 3 feet in diameter inside the commissioner's chambers on the building's second floor. Commissioners said one design may be selected or ideas from multiple submissions could be integrated into the winning seal. The winning entry will be fine-tuned and professionally created by Treanor Architects, the firm that designed the new county facility. "We want to get different ideas that maybe we can incorporate," Presiding Commissioner Arden Engelage said. "We have our own ideas, but we're asking what the public might like. We might take the whole design or just part and add it to another design." There is no age requirement on who is eligible to enter the contest, but the drawing must be designed by a county resident. Also, designs must be drawn inside a circle that is part of the entry form and can be in color or black and white. Commissioners said the winning designs will be judged on what best represents the county's image. Examples that could be featured, they said, include the Katy Trail, the Missouri River, the Lewis and Clark expedition or historic structures and landmarks. Engelage said he personally would like to see the shape of the county be the seal's outline. Commissioners are excited to see what kind of input residents offer. "Everybody has different ideas on what Warren County is," Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner said. Engelage added: "The possibilities are endless." The contest winners are expected to be announced by the end of November. The names of the artists will remain anonymous from the county commission until a contest winner is selected. Construction on the administration building is expected to be completed in April 2012. The new facility, located along South Highway 47 and Mockingbird Lane, will house all non-court related offices Entry forms can be picked up at the Warren County clerk's office inside the courthouse between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or will be available to be downloaded off the county's Web site (www.warrencountymo.org) late this week or early next week.
