Stretches of land on the north and south sides of Interstate 70, west of Highway 47, have been newly designated for commercial use.Two rezoning requests went before the Warrenton Board of Aldermen and were approved at its Dec. 20 meeting.A tract of 37 acres between I-70 and the North West Service Road, 1 mile west of Highway W, was rezoned at the request of Ashfield LLC from agricultural to highway commercial designation.Another 40 acres between I-70 and the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, near Highway MM, was rezoned at the request of Samoht Properties/Keeven Family Partnership from agricultural and forest management to highway commercial designation.Planning and zoning Officer Jack Hanff said no plans have yet been submitted for the land’s future use.The new designations come at a time when the city is working toward a rejuvenation of the area around the Warrenton Outlet Mall near Highway MM.Voters in August approved two half-cent sales taxes that will pay for a new, $15 million interchange providing access from I-70 to Highway MM and the outlet mall.The new interchange is integral to developing plans for a multimillion dollar redevelopment of the outlet mall area, which Rural King has already agreed to anchor.Liquor LicenseIn other city business, the board approved a liquor license for Brewskies Eatery and Beer Garden in downtown Warrenton.The restaurant is preparing to reopen under new ownership.Brewskies closed earlier this year after previous co-owner Debbie Callaway passed away.City of Warrenton
