Clearing work for new bridge begins

Posted
Construction officially got underway on the new Highway 47 Missouri River bridge project Tuesday.
The Missouri Department of Transportation said crews started work Tuesday clearing areas around the bridge.
As a part of the construction, a portion of the Rotary Riverfront Trail will be closed starting next Monday, Sept. 12, a MoDOT spokesperson said.
The eastern portion of the path, between the bridge and the sand plant at South Point, will remain closed until early 2019.  All work is weather permitting.
Alberici Constructors is the general contractor on the $62 million project to build the new bridge just west of the existing span which was completed in 1936.
The tentative timetable calls for the new span to be opened for traffic by the end of 2018.
