Record Managing EditorWarrenton and Wright City are hosting Spring Cleanup Days this Saturday, April 18.Both events will be similar to ones held in the past year.Warrenton residents will be able to dispose of items, such as tires, recycle metals, electronics and appliances, free of charge between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at city hall. Proof of city residency is required. In Wright City, volunteers are encouraged to help clean up the town between 8:30 a.m.-noon Participants can check in at Diekroeger Park.Volunteers will pick up trash and other debris along city streets, as well as paint some fire hydrants.Residents can also take advantage of a free service being offered by a local towing company. A & A Towing will remove derelict or abandoned vehicles — with or without titles — at no cost to owners. Those wanting vehicles towed must contact city hall at 636-745-3101.The city will provide a free lunch, consisting of hot dogs, chips, soda and water, to volunteers. Lunch will be served at Diekroeger Park at noon.Mayor David Heiliger expects a strong turnout.“We have lots of people who want to volunteer,” he said. “We hope the weather is nice. All volunteers are appreciated.”In Warrenton, residents will be able to get rid of items such as televisions, computer monitors, radios, washers, dryers and refrigerators. Tires can also be dropped off, though only a maximum of 10 per address will be allowed. Some of the items that will not be accepted include paint, glass, plastics, Styrofoam, paper, and cardboard. The city’s yard waste disposal lot, located next to the wastewater treatment plant on Willow Road, will also be open Saturday.A free T-shirt will be given to each of the first 50 vehicles that participate in the event. A drawing for a weed eater and leaf blower will be held.City officials were pleased with the turnout during the Fall Cleanup Day and expect more residents to take advantage of the free event.“We are expecting it to be as good,” said Terri Thorn, director of operations/finance officer. “It provides an opportunity to dispose of things that ordinarily you would have to pay someone, if you can get someone to do it.“We hope it continues to grow every year.”The city will also be celebrating Arbor Day in conjunction with Saturday’s event and will have information on trees available for residents. A drawing for an Oak tree will also be held.Cleanup Days
