Civil suit filed against I-70 shooter

An Illinois man who was one of two people wounded in a random shooting rampage on Interstate 70 is suing the alleged gunman.Matthew B. Endsley, of Decatur, Ill., claims the shooter was negligent by using a firearm in a reckless manner while operating a motor vehicle, according to the lawsuit filed March 28.Reginald D. Adams Jr, of Kansas City, Kan., was named in the suit. He has been in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center in Clayton since his arrest March 25, 2015. He is facing numerous criminal charges stemming from the incident, including 12 felonies filed in Warren County for first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and discharging a weapon from a motor-vehicle.Adams randomly shot at motorists along I-70 during a multi-county chase that began west of Warrenton and ended in St. Ann, near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. He shot Endsley and six vehicles during the Warren County portion of the chase.He also shot a female driver near Wentzville Parkway in St. Charles County.In the lawsuit, Endsley claims Adams operated a motor vehicle and used a firearm while under the influence of an intoxicant or narcotic drug. The bullet entered Endsley’s left shoulder and exited in the area of the left side of his chest, according to the suit. The shooting caused serious injuries to Endsley’s arm, shoulder, chest, muscles and ligaments, the suit states.The suit further states Endsley will incur additional medical expenses in the future as a result of Adams’ negligence.Endsley was shot about three miles west of Warrenton while traveling eastbound. Authorities said Adams pulled up alongside other eastbound motorists and fired shots through his passenger window. He told police he snapped over a relationship with a girlfriend.Adams was eventually taken into custody in St. Ann, a St. Louis County municipality after he jumped out of his vehicle and fired shots toward several officers who were chasing him. Officers returned fire and arrested the man. Neither Adams nor the officers were shot.Endsley is seeking in excess of $25,000 in the suit. He is represented by the St. Louis law firm of Edelman Deroode, LLC.A jury trial has been requested.Civil lawsuit
