City to Accept Bids for Water Line Project

Posted

Wright City officials last Thursday voted to begin advertising for bids to complete the fifth and final phase of the Kerland subdivision water line project. As part of the proposed project, the city plans to replace old water lines on North and South Circle. The project is estimated to cost $67,591, according to engineers. An alternate bid option will include boring a new water line underneath the railroad tracks and connecting it to an existing one near W.N. First Street. The city would then cap and abandon the existing Elm Street waterline that currently runs underneath the railroad tracks. That project option is expected to cost around $51,580, though a permit fee from the railroad and engineering would increase the overall cost by $15,000. In the past four years, the city has spent around $733,000 for the first four phases of the Kerland water line project. The city has $125,000 allocated to replace water lines in this year's budget. Once a contract is awarded, city officials expect work to begin in the spring. In Other News • Aldermen approved an ordinance authorizing execution of a supplemental agreement with MoDOT related to an enhancement grant received last year. The agreement extends the contract due to an error in an earlier document. The city received a $200,000 grant to build sidewalks and erect streetlights in the downtown area. Under the new agreement, preliminary design plans must be completed by Oct. 12, with final plans wrapped up by Jan. 1, 2013. The project is then scheduled to be awarded by April 1, 2013. • Aldermen voted 4-0 to purchase storm siren batteries from Harris Automotive for $2,430, the lowest of three bids. Two other bids were received from NAPA ($2,995.20) and Town and Country Garage ($3,096). • The board tabled any action on a request to accept the final plat of The Shire subdivision. A vote is expected to be made at the next meeting on Feb. 9. The plat was previously approved by a 6-1 vote at the planning and zoning commission meeting on Jan. 23. • The city will purchase a salt spreader from Scott's Power Equipment West for $5,070.70. Other bids were received from Knapheide-St. Peters ($5,352) and Knapheide-Jefferson City ($5,404).
