The Wright City Police Department will add another vehicle to its fleet after selling three vehicles that had high mileage or mechanical problems. The city received $13,000 from selling three vehicles on govdeals.com.“The Charger that we sold was a problem vehicle. I did not expect to get $10,000 for it,” Wight City Police Chief Matt Eskew said. With the additional funds now on hand, Eskew requested the Wright City Board of Aldermen to approve the purchase of a Dodge Charger, which will replace the department’s 2009 Ford Crown Victoria.“It has approximately 120,000 miles on it,” Eskew said. “It has a head gasket that’s leaking, a radiator issue and a new electronic box. The total on this was $2,000 worth of mechanical issues and it’s going to need a new set of tires. If we got $1,700 out of it, then I would be shocked. I’m having a struggle investing that kind of money in a vehicle that is not worth that money.”The board approved Eskew’s request to purchase the new city cruiser from the Missouri Highway Patrol, which he said has a strong track record of providing Wright City with quality, used police cruisers.“We have experienced nothing but positives from the other two cars we have,” Eskew said. The board also:Received a coveted unmodified report from its recent independent audit by HB & Company;Approved an application with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for a well plugging grant; andApproved hiring Michael Gray as a seasonal, part-time employee, and Louis Camarena as a full-time public works employee.Wright City Police Department
