Record Managing EditorSanta Claus will be coming to Wright City this week and spending a few days to boot.The Wright City Parks Department will be hosting the annual Christmas parade on Thursday, Dec. 3, followed by Breakfast with Santa and an Ugly Sweater 5K run/1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Dec. 5.Attendees will have the chance to take free pictures with Santa on multiple occasions and Parks Director Curt Kehoe expects dozens to take advantage.“It’s a good thing the weather has been fairly mild in the past,” Kehoe said. “We’ve had lines out the front door.”This Thursday’s parade will start at 6 p.m. at Ruge Park and end at Diekroeger Park. Residents are encouraged to line the streets.After the parade, Santa will make an appearance at the Wil Heiliger Activity Building. Cookies and hot chocolate will be provided by the Wright City High School Student Council.Anyone interested in having a parade entry can show up prior to the parade’s start to be included. Kehoe expects a bigger parade compared to recent years.“We’ve had several people who have said they want to put in floats,” he said.Breakfast with Santa will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m., also at the park building. The breakfast costs $3 for ages 10 and up, while children 9 and under are free.Attendees will have the opportunity to have pictures taken with Santa. Other activities planned include crafts, storybook reading and writing letters to Santa.The Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K run/1-Mile Fun Run will start at 11 a.m. at Diekroeger Park. Registration opens at 10 a.m. The cost is $15 and includes a T-shirt.Participants are encouraged to wear their “ugliest” Christmas sweater. Awards will be given for the best — or worst — sweaters.Awards will also be presented to the top race finisher in the following men’s and women’s divisions: 18 and under, 19-35, 36-50 and 51 and older.The proceeds will benefit the Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce and Relay For Life of Warren County.For more information about the upcoming holiday events, contact the parks department at 636-745-2804 or email parks@wrightcity.org.Christmas Events
