Chaplain Gary Gilmore will be the guest speaker at the annual Marthasville Area Chamber of Commerce Prayer Breakfast.The breakfast will start at 7 a.m. Feb. 28 in the fellowship hall at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 103 S. Second St., in Marthasville.Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Washington Overseas Medical and Dental Mission, an organization that travels to Honduras for two weeks every March to provide medical care.Gilmore has been a Missouri Army National Guard chaplain since 1987. He has served as the chaplain for the 35th Division Support Command, the 735th Main Support Battalion and the 20th Aviation Brigade.He was deployed to Dugway, Utah, in support of Operation Noble Eagle, and served as the garrison chaplain at Fort Leanard Wood. He returned from a deployment to Bagdad, Iraq, with the 35th Engineer Brigade in May of 2008 and is currently the senior chaplain for the Missouri National Guard in Jefferson City.Gilmore responded to numerous disaster response mission including the Pierce City and Joplin tornadoes. He received the Missouri Conspicuous Service Medal in addition to many military awards.Prior to full-time military service, Gilmore was pastor at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon for 16 years.He and his wife, Susan, a third-grade teacher in Mount Vernon, are the parents of three grown daughters.The Marthasville Area Chamber of Commerce Prayer Breakfast is open to the public.
