Casserly elected board president

Record Managing EditorWard 1 Alderman Karen Casserly will serve as Warrenton Board of Aldermen president for the next year.Casserly was nominated by Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch at the April 21 meeting. Aldermen voted 3-0 to elect Casserly to fill the role. Casserly abstained from voting.Ward 3 Alderman Jim Dreyer was absent from the meeting, while one of the Ward 2 seats is vacant.Earlier this month, Casserly was re-elected to a second two-year term.“It is an honor to fill that role,” said Casserly, who was first elected in 2013.During last week’s meeting, Casserly, Auch and new Ward 3 Alderman Bob Delaloye were sworn in, along with new Mayor Eric Schleuter. They each won contested races April 7.In other news• In his first act as mayor, Schleuter appointed Mike Shilharvey to a three-year term on the city’s tourism commission.Shilharvey had previously served on the board, but resigned his seat when he was appointed to fill the mayoral vacancy following the death of Jerry Dyer. Shilharvey’s appointment was approved by a 4-0 vote.• Aldermen voted 4-0 to renew the city’s health insurance with Coventry and dental insurance with Delta Dental effective June 1. The city’s monthly cost for health insurance will be $52,012. The rates increased by 9.5 percent, of which 4 percent is required for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.For dental, the city’s annual premium is $36,097, an increase of 7 percent from the previous year.• The board agreed to spend $800 for a table at the upcoming Greater Warren County Economic Development Council fundraiser on May 9. The city was approached about participating in the fundraiser after not having anyone in attendance in recent years. All four aldermen supported the expenditure.• A revised field rental policy was adopted, a move officials said was made to make it more understandable for city employees and those wanting to utilize the facilities. None of the charges changed.Casserly elected board president
