The Warren County Record welcomed William Carroll as the new editor of the award-winning publication this week.
His first day at The Record was Tuesday.
Carroll, who has filled a variety of leadership roles in the newspaper industry since 2013, brings a wealth of experience to the position.
Carroll most recently was the lead reporter at the Daily American Republican in Poplar Bluff. Prior to that, he was the executive editor for Paxton Media Group in Marion, Ind., where he oversaw four daily newspapers and two weekly publications. He also has held publisher, managing editor and editor positions at newspapers in New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Mississippi.
“We’re excited to add someone with William’s experience to lead our staff and publication,” Publisher Tim Schmidt said. “He understands the importance of community journalism and is eager to be involved in the community. When we looked to fill this position, we wanted to hire someone with significant newspaper experience and strong writing skills and William checked both of those boxes.”
Carroll will direct the newspaper’s news coverage and editorial focus.
“During my career my focus has always been on telling the stories that matter most to a community,” Carroll said. “In order to do that you really have to be involved in the community and speak with a wide variety of residents. I am looking forward to getting involved and meeting as many people as I can here in Warren County.
He was attracted to the editor position at The Record since he has family in the St. Louis area.
“I really love the location,” Carroll said. “Close enough to the city to be able to enjoy activities that come with big-city life, but far enough away to enjoy the close connections of a smaller community. It helps that I have family in the St. Louis metro area.”
Carroll has a bachelor's degree in history from Belhaven College and a law degree from Valparaiso University
Carroll can be reached by emailing editor@warrencountyrecord.com or by calling the office at 636-456-6397.
