Carrie Gates named Turning Point Volunteer of Year

Carrie Gates earned the Volunteer of the Year award from Turning Point Domestic and Sexual Violence Emergency Shelter and Services.Gates was selected for being a valuable board member for over eight nonconsecutive years. Her competent, calm leadership ushered in an era of strategic board-building and support of the organization’s mission and dedicated staff. Turning Point serves Franklin, Gasconade, Montgomery, Warren and western St. Charles. Turning Point provides emergency shelter to over 250 women and children in desperate circumstances every year.Each year, up to 50 people seeking refuge cannot be accommodated because of lack of space.Besides residential services, a growing number of nonresidential clients are helped through court advocacy, safety planning, economic empowerment and resource education.With over a half million dollar annual budget, the organization employs 11 staff members.Gates received her award at the organization’s annual board workshop.
