Kory Carpenter has joined The Warren County Record as the newspaper’s new sports editor.He began work last Thursday, Nov. 5.Carpenter, 25, most recently was the sports editor for Campbell Publications, based in Jerseyville, Ill., since December 2014. He was responsible for covering 12 high schools and overseeing six weekly papers in western Illinois.He also has previously worked for RushTheCourt.net, an online site that covers the Big 12 Conference and for Yahoo! Sports as a contributor covering the St. Louis Cardinals.Carpenter obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in News and Information in 2014 from the University of Kansas. While in college, he served as the beat writer for the Jayhawks and covered the squad when they reached the Final Four in 2012.Carpenter is from Maryland Heights and is a 2009 graduate of Pattonville High School.“We’re excited Kory has joined our staff,” Managing Editor Tim Schmidt said. “We are committed to providing the best coverage of our local high school athletes and Kory understands the importance of community journalism. Kory will do a great job covering our local high schools.”At The Record, Carpenter will be responsible for covering Warrenton and Wright City prep sports along with other sports-related stories. He also will assist with general news assignments.“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to cover high school sports in Warren County,” Carpenter said. “Growing up in west St. Louis County, I have some familiarity with the area and I think that will help me continue to deliver excellent sports coverage for the Warren County Record readers.
