A driver from Warrenton was taken to the hospital Thursday after the vehicle he was in fell from a small bridge onto the road below.

Benjamin L. Meyers, 27, was driving through Innsbrook on South Stracks Church Road when the crash happened at 11:50 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A preliminary report states Meyers suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to the report, Meyers was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva northbound when it traveled off the right side of the road where South Stracks Church Road crosses over Meadow Valley Drive. The SUV rode up onto the guardrail on the side of the bridge, then rolled over a concrete retaining wall and onto Meadow Valley Drive below.

Meyers, speaking to The Record, said he had swerved to avoid a black pickup truck that had driven into his lane going the opposite direction. He said the driver of the truck did not stop after the crash.

Meyers is now home from the hospital and in recovery.
