A man who fled law enforcement in a stolen SUV was issued criminal charges from two different counties on the same day last week.Brian K. Heathcock, 29, is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and fleeing arrest here, and is facing half a dozen felony charges in Callaway County for an armed confrontation in a McDonald’s restaurant.Heathcock was arrested Sept. 26 after fleeing from a Warren County sheriff’s deputy the night before, according to police. Authorities said Heathcock had been identified as a suspect in the theft of a silver Hyundai Santa Fe stolen out of Montgomery County.A sheriff’s deputy was in the area of Lost Creek Road the night of Sept. 25 after a report that a silver SUV had driven through someone’s yard. When just such a SUV with license plate matching the stolen vehicle passed by, the deputy gave chase.Heathcock drove onto Highway U and then turned around through a yard to drive back the other direction, according to the arrest report. He reportedly repeated the maneuver on Lost Creek Road and drove all the way around a house.Eventually, Heathcock was detained by law enforcement and taken to the Warren County Jail Sept. 26. That same day, Heathcock was named by the Fulton Police Department as the suspect for an assault and discharging a weapon at a McDonald’s in Fulton, which is in Callaway County.Fulton police said Heathcock was in a fight at the restaurant when he pulled a gun and used it to strike another person on the head. The weapon was discharged during the altercation, although police said no one was shot. The assault victim was treated for injuries.Heathcock’s charges in Callaway County Circuit Court include felony assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use and unlawful possession of a weapon, and property damage.Heathcock has multiple prior felony convictions, for theft of property valued over $500, vehicle tampering and stealing a motor vehicle, according to online court records.He is currently being held at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond. He had an arraignment set for Oct. 3 in Warren County Circuit Court.
