Races are open for a number of local government and school board elections, with the most candidate activity so far in the city of Marthasville.Elections for local offices will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Candidates must file by Jan. 15.In Marthasville, candidates have signed up to compete against the incumbents for all three elected offices on the ballot in April.East Ward Alderman Dan Grafrath, West Ward Alderman Leo Meyer and Mayor David Lange are all seeking re-election.Challenging them are Keith Theissen for East Ward alderman, Keith Hagedorn for West Ward alderman, and David Edgington for mayor.In an apparent show of enthusiasm, all six candidates put their names on the ballot on the opening day of candidate filing.Mayor and aldermen serve for two-year terms.Candidates may file at Marthasville City Hall, 402 E. Main St. A map of the city’s wards is available on the city’s website, CityOfMarthasvilleMO.org.Below are candidates filings for other municipal elections in the area. Those interested in running for office should contact the relevant political district and inquire about any filing fees and eligibility requirements.City of WarrentonThe mayor’s office and one alderman seat for each of Warrenton’s three wards are up for election this year.Mayor Eric Schleuter, Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch and Ward 3 Alderman Gary Miller all filed for re-election on the first day of candidate filing.Newcomer Cheryl Dyer is seeking election as alderman for Ward 1. Current Alderman Greg Costello did not file as a candidate in the first week.Mayor and aldermen serve for a two-year term.Candidates may file with the city clerk at Warrenton City Hall, 200 W. Booneslick Road. A map of the city’s wards is available on the city’s website, www.warrenton-mo.org.Warren County R-III School DistrictTwo seats are up for election on the R-III Board of Education, and current officeholders Ginger Schenck and Allan Dreyer have filed for re-election. They are joined by challenger Joe Lanigan.Schenck was the first to submit her candidacy, and the only school board candidate to file on day one.Candidates may file at the superintendent’s office, 385 W. Veterans Memorial Parkway, Warrenton.Warrenton Fire Protection DistrictThree incumbents have filed to retain their three seats on the Warrenton FPD Board of Directors. Malissa Booth and Donald Owenby are both seeking new six-year terms.Jim Sharp, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board, is running for election to complete the final two years for that term of office.All three incumbents filed for election on the first day, and thus far do not have any challengers.Candidates may file for the election at Warrenton Fire Station 1, 606 Fairgrounds Road, Warrenton.City of Wright CityBoard of alderman seats for Wright City’s two city wards will be voted on in April. The incumbents for the two seats, Ward 1 Alderman Kerry Lambright and Ward 2 Alderman Nathan Rohr, filed for re-election on opening day. No challengers filed during the first week.Aldermen serve for a two-year term. Candidates may file at the new Wright City Hall, 636 Westwoods Road. Ward 1 consists of all residences north of Interstate 70, and Ward 2 is south of I-70.Wright City R-II School DistrictIncumbent school board member Mary Groeper filed for re-election early on the first day of candidate filing. She was followed almost a week later by fellow incumbent Austin Jones.Two school board seats with three-year terms are up for election, with no challengers emerging for the incumbents in the first week.Candidates may file at the school district’s central office, 90 Bell Road, Wright City.School District of WashingtonThe Washington School District, which serves the Marthasville area, has two school board seats on the ballot in April. Neither of the incumbents, Dan Contarini and Trish Mitchell, have said whether they will seek re-election.Newcomers Jason Oesterly and Matt Wilson, both of Washington, have filed to run for the offices. Both are parents of children in the district.Candidates may file at the district’s administration office at 220 Locust St. in Washington. District offices will be closed from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.TruesdaleThe offices of mayor and two aldermen will be voted on in Truesdale in April.Current Mayor Chris Watson submitted his candidacy when filing opened. Incumbent Alderman Stanley Brookshier filed for re-election in the first week, while fellow incumbent Robert Green has not yet filed.No other residents filed candidacy in the first week.Mayor and aldermen serve for a two-year term. Candidates may file at Truesdale City Hall, 109 Pinckney St.Village of InnsbrookThree spots on the village’s board of trustees are available.All three incumbents, Jeffry Thomsen, Trish Dunn and Jerry Rust, filed for re-election on the first day of filing.Trustees serve for two-year terms.
