Candidate filing opens for county offices

No races have formed for the multiple county offices up for election this year with less than two weeks to go before the filing deadline.

Incumbents primarily make up for most of the candidates who have filed so far. They are Sheriff Kevin Harrison, Assessor Katie Smith and District 1 (formerly Northern District) Commissioner Matt Flake.

Others who have filed are Richard Scheibe for 12th Judicial Circuit judge, Jason Sides for coroner, John Miller for District 2 commissioner and Bart Korman for surveyor. Scheibe is the current associate judge in Warren County.

All of the candidates who have filed so far are Republicans.

No candidate has yet to file for public administrator. That position is currently held by Melissa Dempsey, also a Republican.

The filing period for county and state offices ends Tuesday, March 26.

Elsewhere, Republican incumbent Jeff Myers of Warrenton is seeking another term in the Missouri House of Representatives. He currently serves the 42nd District, which encompasses all of Warren County and the eastern portion of Montgomery County.  Shaun Sparks of Warrenton is seeking the Democratic nomination.

Numerous candidates have filed for the 3rd District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives currently held by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer. The list includes eight Republicans (Arnie C. AC Arn Dienoff, Chad Bicknell, Kyle Bone, Brandon Wilkinson, Bob Onder, Mary Elizabeth Coleman, Kurt Schaefer and Justin Hicks), two Democrats (Bethany Mann and Andrew Daly) and one Libertarian (Jordan Rowden).

The primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, with the general election set for Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect the 42nd District House of Representatives seat covers all of Warren County.  The boundary for the 102nd District seat currently held by Richard West  represents portions of St. Charles County.
