Mike Mittler, president and co-founder of Mittler Brothers Machine and Tool, Wright City, testified Wednesday, June 19, during a hearing before the United States House of Representatives' Small Business Committee. The hearing, titled "Made in the USA: Stories of "American Manufacturers," coincided with the 50th Annual National Small Business Week. See Related video to see Mike at the committee hearing. The purpose of the hearing was to highlight the re-emergence and accomplishments of small American manufacturers. The hearing also was part of ongoing efforts by members of Congress to hear from business owners about their successes and how best to improve the economy. Mittler Brothers has produced high-quality metal working equipment since 1980. The company offers a product line of metalworking and fabrication tools used in the auto racing and aviation markets. Additionally, Mittler Brothers plays a role in engineering, designing and building special machines to automate industry. “National Small Business Week is a great time to celebrate the important role small businesses play in our economy and in our communities,” said Congressman Sam Graves, committee chairman who represents Missouri's 6th District. “Manufacturing remains a very important part of our economy, directly supporting 11 million American jobs. "While manufacturing has seen a resurgence over the past several years, according to the National Association of Manufactures two out of three manufactures identify the current business climate as unfavorable due to our tax and regulatory environment," Graves added. Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, who represents Missouri's 3rd District which includes Warren County, is the committee's co-chairman. Luetkemeyer invited Mittler to come to Washington and participate in the hearing which featured a number of representatives from manufacturers nationwide. “Mike Mittler is the perfect example of how hard-working Americans can achieve anything when their innovation and ingenuity are allowed to flourish,” Luetkemeyer said. “Manufacturing directly supports 11 million jobs nationwide and by encouraging a less burdensome business climate, manufacturers, like Mike, can create even more good paying American jobs.” Luetkemeyer also is co-sponsor of a bipartisan resolution honoring the entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses, applauding the milestone achievements of the owners and their employees of small businesses and recognizing their importance to this nation’s economy.
