Business, Fine Arts Council offer scholarships

Renaissance Wine Garden in Wright City and the Warren County Fine Arts Council hope to encourage young artists to follow their passion by offering four $1,000 scholarships to students showing their art at the wine garden or around town.

Two scholarships will be awarded to art students at Wright City High School, and two will be awarded to students from Warrenton High School, said Renaissance Wine Garden owner John Cook.

“If you’re a student, you’re eligible. Submit your art project, and you might win a $1,000 scholarship,” said Cook. “It’s no strings attached. You don’t have to provide a certain school or have a certain GPA. You don’t have to choose an art degree.”

The scholarships are meant to encourage students to continue creating art, even as side projects to their work or education.

Around 14 students showed art at a Rogue Underground Dining event in January in Warrenton, said Warren County Fine Arts Council President Jennifer Schipper. That served as the opening event in the pursuit of the scholarships.

“This is the very first ever Warren County Fine Arts Council Scholarship fund,” Schipper said.

Schipper is coordinating showings for student art pieces at various locations and businesses in Warrenton and Wright City.

The winners of the art scholarships will be announced May 1 during a dinner and showing at Renaissance Wine Garden.
