Here is news and information from Warren County businesses and Chambers of Commerce: • The Warrenton Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a conditional use permit for Showtime Detail to open an automotive detail shop at 801 Louis Ave. The next step for the business is to get an OK from the Warrenton Board of Aldermen.• Wal-Mart in Warrenton is having a grand reopening event from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, March 31. The event will start with a ribbon cutting and visits from D.A.R.E. officers, Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales, and fire and ambulance districts. Vendors will also be available. The grand reopening is to celebrate the completion of the store’s remodel and new additions. The fabric department has returned and the store has added online grocery pickup. The lawn and garden area also will open for the season March 31.• Michael B. Pace, of West Plains, is the new chair of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, and Gregg C. Smith, of Clinton, is the new vice chair. The commission rotated the leadership positions at its March meeting in Jefferson City. Pace and Smith were both appointed to the commission by former Gov. Jay Nixon.Pace is a retired brigadier general in the Army National Guard and served nearly 33 years in the Missouri State Highway Patrol, achieving the rank of major. When he retired he was director of the criminal investigation bureau in Jefferson City. Smith is president and owner of Gregg Smith Ford Lincoln, Inc., and Wilder RV.The six-member bipartisan commission governs the Missouri Department of Transportation, the agency responsible for designing, building, operating and maintaining the state highway system and supporting other transportation modes in Missouri.Other commission members are Tom Waters, Orrick; Mary Nelson, St. Louis; and John Briscoe, New London.
