Jackson, who entered through the back door of the store, noticed a desk drawer had been tampered with and Thursday's deposit of cash and checks was missing. Kathryn's, located at 514 E. Main in Warrenton, was the target of a forced entry and burglary some time after 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, according to employees. Not only did thieves steal the deposit bag, they took the change out of the front register and emptied an extra cash box used during busy holiday seasons. Employees estimate the thieves only found approximately $200 in their search. Among the stolen cash were $2 bills used for "special change," which Kathryn's is known for using with its customers. Officers on scene said it might be helpful for other businesses to know there are several $2 bills floating around out there. Lori Farrar, owner, was not available for comment. "The employees are all the same people," said Jackson. "We've all been here for many years." Police said the burglars broke in the front door then moved to the back of the store, searching as they went. They left through the front door carrying a cash drawer. Jackson said no other merchandise appeared to be missing. Although the cash loss was minimal, opening to normal business was difficult Friday. "We have no money to open with," said employee Amanda Naranjo. Employees also had to wait for police to finish their investigation before attempting to get their computer back online to handle floral orders. Warrenton police Detective Jeff Doerr dusted the store for fingerprints. Officers also searched the exterior of the building for other clues. Police Chief Davis Bernard said his department is looking at a "person of interest," and the investigation is continuing. He also said no other burglaries were reported in the area. If anyone saw suspicious activity near Kathryn's Thursday or Friday, April 10-11, they should call the Warrenton Police Department at 636-456-4394.
